St. Patrick’s day is nearly here. This year, some of us will find ourselves in a solitary state on this traditionally festive day. What else can you expect when half the world is living in a state of quarantine. The way it stands, more than a few of us will end up being alone on March 17th. However, this doesn’t mean we have to spend it sitting in a corner pondering what could have been. Let’s put on our party pants and find fun and engaging ways to make this year’s Irish-themed holiday extra special.
I hope you’re prepared to have a fantastic St. Patrick’s day. You’re sure to get your Irish on and have an amazing St. Patty’s day with these 5 creative ideas to make this St. Patrick’s day one to remember.
1. Start Off Your Day with Green Eggs and Ham for Breakfast
Unless you’re a short, annoyingly persistent, red hat-wearing little fellow by the name of Sam, you may not think of Green Eggs and Ham as a festive food. However, this meal based on the classic Dr. Suess book has all the makings of a great St. Patrick’s day breakfast. But make no mistake about it, the book may have been written for children but green eggs and ham can be the perfect breakfast for adults.
For this whimsical and delightful green-themed breakfast, you needn’t be a gourmet chef. And you needn’t be a kid to love and enjoy this fun twist on the classic eggs and ham breakfast. This recipe, modified from delish.com, includes spinach and herbs, so it’s a touch more healthful than some of the food coloring using recipes used to fascinate children.
Just remember, it’s Green Eggs and Ham, not Green Eggs and Green Ham. If your ham is green, it’s old and should be thrown out. Definitely not something I’d recommend eating. Not even on a boat or with a goat.

- Add ham and cook 3 to 5 minutes per side (until color turns golden).
- Slice ham and serve with scrambled eggs.
We’re not saying you’ll love these eggs enough to eat them in a box, or with a fox. However, after making this delicious breakfast, we’re sure you’ll add this recipe to your go-to list of breakfast meals.
2. Spread Cheer with Holiday Themed Meeting Background Images
If you can’t go out after work with your coworkers for a live St. Patrick’s day party, bring the party to the (virtual) office. Share your enthusiasm with your coworkers by using a St. Patrick’s Day-themed virtual background in your Microsoft Teams or Zoom meetings. By using a St. Patty’s themed zoom background, you’ll do just that. Green backgrounds and shamrocks will help continue the festive spirit with your coworkers. Even if it is virtual.
The best part is that backgrounds for video meetings are usually inexpensive and you can even find them for free. You can purchase some snazzy ones on Etsy for about $1 and you can even find some interesting free virtual backgrounds out there. Not to be outdone, we here at CN+J have made available three creative Zoom backgrounds with a St. Patrick’s day motif. Feel free to use them during your next virtual meeting and proudly display your St. Patrick’s day spirit. Not only will this add some festive flair, but it will make it easier for your coworkers to figure out which meeting to join if there’s any competition for their time.

3. Melt Stress Away with a St. Patrick’s Day Themed Adult Coloring Book
After a day packed with meetings (where you hopefully used your free St. Patrick’s Day-themed background), you may need to unwind. Many have discovered adult coloring books as a way to release tension and relieve stress from a long day. Go ahead, unleash your inner child (she loves coloring), and color your worries away with a cool St. Patrick’s day coloring book for adults. Hopefully, you remembered to get extra green-colored pens.
Adult coloring books are inexpensive and have an assortment of benefits. We’ve written a full article on how useful they can be. You can read here for a more detailed listing. The key takeaway is they are a great way to unwind and unplug. Not to mention they’re tons of fun!
4. Treat Yourself to a St. Patrick’s Day Mocktail
Mocktails are non-alcoholic mixed drinks that are fun to make. Whether you choose to make a classic Green Flamingo cocktail, a Shamrock Shooter, or another green-colored drink – you’ll have lots of fun (and maybe even drink something healthy) as part of your St. Patrick’s day solo celebration.
Mocktails are better than alcoholic drinks, alcohol can be a downer and there is no room for downers on St. Patrick’s day. Mocktails might not be authentic drinks, but they are an awesome way to celebrate. Especially if you don’t drink alcohol or if you can’t have real drinks. You can have fun playing bartender and enjoy all of the festive green that’s associated with St. Patrick’s day.
5. Make it a Classic Irish Movie Night
One way to put yourself in an Irish state of mind is by watching a classic Irish movie. Some of the classic favorites include Darby O’Gill and the Little People, The Quiet Man, and The Wind that Shakes the Barley. If you want a more recent movie, check out Brooklyn or Sing Street. Good Vibrations is a charming and fun movie based on a true story that will put you in a hopeful mood. The power of perseverance is at the core of this story. You’ll cry, laugh, and dance as you enjoy this nostalgic story about music, life, and pursuing your dreams. It’s free on Amazon Prime and is a great option if you’re a music lover.
One of the most enchanting movies you’ll ever see is P.S. I Love You. This amazing star-studded film is emotional and inspirational. In it, Hilary Swank portrays a widow who loses her husband and finds herself again because of messages left from her deceased husband. The entire story isn’t located in Ireland, but it has a couple of overseas trips and plenty of Irish characters to call it an Irish movie. I don’t want to give up too much, but I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised and inspired. P.S. I Love You is definitely on the list of the greatest Irish movies of all time!
There are lots of great options regardless of what genre of movie you prefer. Make yourself some popcorn, sit back, and start feeling more Irish as you enjoy a classic Irish movie.
A Final Idea: Make Time for Self-Care
St. Patrick’s day is all about being Irish. The Irish are known for being happy, friendly, and good to be around. Much of this is due to how connected they are with themselves. They take time for self-care. They have a sense of who they are and what they want out of life.
Take a little time on St. Patrick’s day to engage in self-care. Making time for yourself each and every day is vital. Especially in times like this when where you’re alone a lot. It doesn’t have to be something complicated. You can take a relaxing bath, journal, or simply go for a walk. Just find some time to be alone and focus on yourself.
Why? Because it allows you to reset, reflect, and get back in touch with your authentic self. As a result, you’ll end up being refreshed and recharged. It’s also important for your overall well-being and productivity. Don’t hesitate. Put a priority on taking time to focus on yourself and to clear your mind.
Because being alone is so much more than just being by yourself. This St. Patrick’s day, try your best to act like the Irish. Enjoy yourself and take time to make yourself feel special. Being alone can be a gift. It’s all about you and your mindset. It’s a time to harness your thoughts for success, happiness, and fulfillment.
Be proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished so far in life. Be excited about all the great things just over the horizon that you’ve yet to accomplish, but will!
